The CIA hired them to help solve the mysterious deaths of 5 of their retired agents.

Gathering information from events of the past can lead a person to clues that bare the hallmarks of danger. Impulsively teenagers tread into situations without thinking. That was always the problem with being young. Young people have no fear of the future. Fisher, Clint and Cassie were standing in the office they shared on Broad street. Each one recounting what they remembered about that night 25 years ago. What they had heard and witnessed and how those events might tie into the murders they are now investigating.

The CIA hired them to help solve the mysterious deaths of five of their retired agents. Hard to crack crimes is what they did best. Their training and years of working for the CIA and FBI prepared these sleuths for the mind twisting circumstances playing out before their eyes. While each new clue would lead them to another clue and eventually push them in a direction that would seem to lead nowhere. However, always pulling Fisher, Clint and Cassie back into the past to that night when they stood outside trying to melt into the brick walls of the mansion that frosty October. The three teens listened undetected at the open lab window to the conversation going on between Opal and her visitors while Henry sat purring on the window sill. They never realized at the time how these events would propel their lives into the puzzling murder mystery they are investigating today.

Early that same morning before daylight broke the autumn skies , Opal was busy in the lab getting ready for her evening appointment. She had to stop her work and go into the restroom. Edward was waiting outside the lab door for this opportunity. When the bathroom door closed he stepped into the lab. He moved swiftly quiet as a shadow he advanced stealthily into the dimly lit laboratory that he shared with his daughter.

Henry watched with his cat eyes from his perch on the sill of the partially opened window. Henry knew Edward, so he wouldn’t give him away. With swift exact movements, he made his way to the wall safe. Opal would be in the bathroom for a brief time, so he had to work with considerable speed. He put the flashlight between his teeth spotlighting the worn dial. His gentle fingers turned the knob to the right then to the left and back again to the right. The heavy ancient door clicked open. He removed the envelope from the bottom shelf and replaced what was inside it with perfect fake copies. He pushed the heavy door closed, and gave the dial a quick whirl for good measure.

The commode flushed and the running of water in the sink was his signal to leave. When Opal’s hand giggled the bathroom door handle, the agent made a fast and soundless departure out of the same door he had come in. With the envelope in his hand, he walked down the expansive hallway and closed the front door behind him with a quiet click.

Back in the lab Opal heard the front door as it closed and mumbled to herself, “Dad must have an early appointment.”

Opal went to the safe to check one last time that the contents of the envelope resting on the bottom shelf were safe.

While she waited for evening she went to work on a new project. Henry purred knowingly.

Unknown to Edward another set of eyes were watching him, following his every move that day.

Fisher, leading the way advanced up the sloping hillside behind the mansion, he scurried along like a sure-footed cat in padded boots. He was a head taller than most teens with his long legs on a six-foot three-inch muscular body. At eighteen years old he was the tallest boy in his senior class with a well-defined tanned face. His brilliant blue eyes twinkled when he flashed a playful smile that revealed extra white teeth. The basketball coach was tireless trying to persuade him to join the team. Fisher’s heart was not in basketball or any sport he wanted to be a CIA agent like his dad. That was where his heart was. He would spend most of his free time in the library studying. The rest of his time was spent with Clint and Cassie his fellow detectives who were known around town and at the coffee shop (their unofficial hang out) as the Bow street runners. After a lot of research they decided on the name for their sleuthing club from the Bow street runners in London, England they were the forerunners of Scotland Yard, they were young teens who would do the leg work for the police during investigations to help solve crimes.

Clint and Cassie were following close behind Fisher trying to keep up. They walked gingerly gauging each step, trying not fall over a slippery rock that would send them sprawling head first onto the frost covered field of winter wheat stubble, browned and brittle from the cold, crunching under each step of their boots.

With care and great haste by the light of the full moon, the bow street runners, advanced up the field until they were just twenty feet away from the slightly opened lab window. They could see the dark outline of Henry the cat as he lay stretched across the wide window sill. Henry spotted the sleuths with his cat eyes before he heard them. Henry sensed with his cat instinct that it was Fisher and his friends so he didn’t give them away he just watched and purred as they approached the window.

In 1925 Percy Fawcett ventured into the Amazon to find an ancient civilization, vowing to make one of themost important archaeological discoveries in history. For centuries Europeans believed the world’s largest jungle concealed the glittering kingdom of El Dorado. Thousands died looking for it. Over time many scientists came to view the Amazon as a deathtrap that could never support a complex society. But Fawcett, whose daring expeditions helped inspire Conan Doyle’s The Lost World, had spent years building his scientific case. Captivating the imagination of millions around the globe, Fawcett embarked with his twenty-one-year-old son, determined to prove that this ancient civilization-which he dubbed “Z” existed. Then he and his expedition vanished. Never to be heard from again. He left behind many clues and intriqued the imaginations of many.

In January 2010 a new article appeared on the headlines. As a result of the deforestation of the Amazon basin, a startling discovery has been made. Hidden from view for centuries, the vast archaeological remains of an unknown, ancient civilization have been found. Satellite imagery was used to discern the footprint of the buildings and roads of a settlement, located in what is now Brazil and believed to span a region of more than 150 miles across.

This is a sophisticated pre-Columbian monument-building society in the upper Amazon basin on the east side of the Andes. The people constructed earthworks of precise geometric plan connected by straight orthogonal roads.

The community likely had a population of more than 60,000 people. The researchers said they have only uncovered roughly 10 percent of the existing structures, which may date as far back as A.D. 800.

Would you leave you wife and children, spend your life savings, put your children in danger, spend the lives of countless workers, on a quest for truth that leads to death, madness, or disappearance for those who seek to solve it? Were the spent lives worth the discovery? Have you ever been driven with such intensity? What purpose did it serve for Fawcett to do what he did? Should the Royal National Geographical Society be held accountable, as one of the first spy agencies, for encouraging the searches of the Amazon just to collect information about that country and its people?
